地点:

Education Centre - Board Room

On May 11, in WRDSB meeting, a few parents did presentations and requested one motion to delay the implementation of the revised sex-ed curriculum by one year. Trustee Cindy Watson made one motion as the following, Trustee Natalie Waddell and Colin Harrington co- signed in the motion form.

Here is the wording of the motion:

Whereas parents/guardians are the primary educators of their children and have the right to decide what is age appropriate

Whereas the Waterloo Region District School Board Policies promote respect for different cultures, background and faiths

Whereas the Waterloo Region District School Board Communication policy promotes and encourages parental engagement

Whereas many parents are uninformed about the Religious Accommodation Policy

Whereas the Ministry of Education has not provided the statistical information concerning the surveys that were distributed to the chairs of school councils in Ontario along with the results from the round table discussions

Therefore be it resolved that staff host information sessions in September that would share accurate information about the Religious Accommodation Policy and the New Physical Education Curriculum, as well as a question and answer opportunity for parents

And that parents be provided with information concerning the Physical Education Curriculum guidelines (e.g. time-lines) through e-mail or letter and that the guidelines be posted on the WRDSB web-site.

And that the Waterloo Region District School Board write a letter to the Minister of Education requesting that the statistical information concerning the data collected from the surveys and focus groups concerning the Sexual Education component of the Physical Education Curriculum Guidelines be shared with the constituents of Ontario.

Trustee Watson's motion was posted in two local newspapers and she had been interviewed by CBC Radio in the morning of May 19. We, as concerned parents, urge all Waterloo Region parents to stand up, show up in the next school board meeting and speak out parents concern. If you want to speak as a delegation, please call and fill in the form, see the link: http://www.wrdsb.ca/board-meetings/delegations/
